FAQs
The Event
What is the itinerary of The Frontline Walk: The Pyrenees?
The Frontline Walk takes place over 6 days. We will meet in Toulouse on day 1, 1st September. The actual walking takes place over days 2-5. We will then return home on day 6, 6th September from Toulouse airport.
The itinerary can be found on the 'route' tab above.
What elevation will we reach on the trek?
We will reach an elevation of 2522m on day 5 of the trek. That's nearly double the height of the U.K.'s tallest mountain, Ben Nevis!
How difficult is the trek?
The trek is a Trip Grade 4 or alternatively, an intense trip. It involves exposed terrain and tough conditions, usually at altitude. A good level of fitness and stamina is required, alongside a determined approach and a total commitment. Our training plan will help you prepare for the difficulty of the trek, however we recommend having a good baseline of fitness in order to complete the trek in its entirety.
What route will we walk?
The exact route varies each year and will be released closer to the Walk. You can see the route outline by clicking on the specific tab above.
How far will we walk each day?
The challenge of the route lays more in its elevation than its distance. However the route will still cover a the total distance of 45.5km with each walking day between 11-14km.
Where do we meet?
We will meet at Toulouse Airport. You are responsible for arranging and paying for your travel to Toulouse.
Where do we return to?
You will be transferred to Toulouse airport. You will then be responsible for your travel back from there.
What are the timings of the Walk?
Once registered, we will suggest flights for arrival and departure from Toulouse airport.
Specific timings for each walking day will be confirmed on The Frontline Walk, as they are subject to change dependent on weather. However we can confirm it will be an early start each day.
What is included in the cost?
Your minimum sponsorship target, of £1,850, covers your transfer from and to Toulouse airport, accommodation and meals from dinner on day 1 to breakfast on day 6, water on trekking days, snacks, medical support, a charity t-shirt and a charity cap. You are responsible for your travel from and to the U.K.
Is there an age restriction?
The minimum age is 18 for the Frontline Walk. There is no upper age limit, but if you are over 60 at the start of the Walk you will need a doctor’s note from your GP confirming you are fit and healthy and there is no medical reason that you should not take part in the Walk.
Do I need medical authorisation to take part in the walk?
If you will be over the age of 60 on the first day of the walk you will need to get your GP to confirm you are able to take part.
You are also required to complete a thorough medical questionnaire which will be assessed confidentially be our medical team. If something is flagged by the medical team, you may require a doctors note to take part.
Fundraising
What is the fundraising target and when is it due?
The total fundraising target is £1,850 and the deadline is the 31st September 2023.
You must have raised £550 of this by the 30th June 2023 to confirm your spot on the event.
Why do I need to have raised £550 by the 30th June?
The Soldiers’ Charity covers expenses such as accommodation and food, plus other costs such as medical cover and support staff. We ask you to have raised £550 by the 30th June to ensure these costs are covered.
What happens if I do not reach £550 by the 30th June?
Unfortunately, you will not be able to take part.
What happens if I do not reach the minimum sponsorship target?
We will do everything we can to help you raise the minimum sponsorship but failure to do so may prevent you from taking part in future events for The Soldiers’ Charity.
Is Gift Aid included in my sponsorship target?
Gift Aid is not included in minimum sponsorship targets.
Can we fundraise jointly as a team?
Yes, absolutely – it can make your fundraising target easier to meet if you fundraise together. You can even have a team fundraising page. Just remember that the sponsorship target is per person, so if your individual target is £1,850 and you fundraise as a pair, you’ll need to raise £3,700 together.
How do I apply for matched funding from my employer?
Many companies will match up to 100% of the donations you collect. Each company has a different policy and so please contact your HR or CSR teams to find out more.
Can you supply Charity materials to help with fundraising?
Yes, simply visit events.soldierscharity.org/fundraising-resources to order fundraising materials.
If you still have any questions, please contact the event coordinator, Claire, on events@soldierscharity.org.
