Not just a Lunch - but virtual events and activities fundraising to support veterans into employment

The Virtual Lord Mayor's Big Curry 2021

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2021 Lord Mayor’s Big Curry Lunch has evolved into a series of virtual fundraising events and activities that will begin in late March and conclude by the end of June.

As in previous years, all money raised will go towards supporting the Pain Management Programme at King Edward VII’s Hospital’s Centre for Veterans’ Health. This vital programme transforms the lives of Armed Forces veterans who are suffering from chronic physical and psychological pain.

Employment is an issue that has ballooned across the nation as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. It has created difficulties for many people, including veterans seeking work in the civilian world. The Pain Management Programme focuses on helping veterans to manage their pain and return to work.

This year, our ambition is to fund 18 Armed Forces veterans to attend the programme.

A series of incredible online experiences

Starting as all good events should, with a glass of Pol Roger champagne on the 17th March, the next 8 weeks will take us on an adventure through books, wine and delicious home-cooked curries with some of the nation's best-loved personalities.

Hear tales of travel and adventure with Sir Michael Palin, be transported to the vineyards of Bordeaux with Edouard Moueix direct from his chateau and impress your family by cooking up an Indian feast with Prue Leith. All while raising funds to support our veterans and their families.

Everything you need to join in the occasion will be delivered to your door and leading figures from food and wine will be there to talk and walk you through every step to provide the best of Lord Mayor's Big Curry Lunch in the comfort of your own home.

Who you're supporting

The Lord Mayor’s Big Curry Lunch is one of the City of London’s biggest fundraisers supporting the veterans of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is achieved through the three national service charities;

Message from the Co-Chairmen, The Lord Mayor William Russell and Michael Hockney

The annual Lord Mayor’s Big Curry Lunch is one of the most popular events in the City calendar and the largest that raises funds to support military veterans. It’s usually based around a 1,500 guest lunch in Guildhall. For 2021, the Big Curry Lunch has had to evolve, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, into a fantastic array of virtual events and activities, through which we have tried to capture as much as possible of the content and fun of the annual Guildhall Lunches.

Whilst what we've planned for the coming months will be very different to previous years, the cause for which we are raising funds has not changed. In fact, the need has increased. Employment is an issue which has ballooned across the nation as a result of the pandemic. It has created difficulties for many people including military veterans seeking a job in the civilian world.

More than ever, support is needed to help veterans and in particular those suffering from the debilitating impact of pain - physical, psychological or both - manage the pain and, as a result, be able to seek and hold down a job. Our support for the Veterans’ Pain Management Programme at the King Edward VII Hospital helps transform the lives of individual veterans and their families.

Our target for 2021 is to fund 18 veterans waiting to go on the Programme. With your support we can do this and have sufficient additional funding to help many other veterans into employment.
