8 years ago. Fresh out of Freshers. A boy yet to become a man. Made a choice. A choice which would lead leave a man to make 13000+ solitary, desolate, laboured steps (ok, the steps were going to be laboured irrespective for this gentleman, so let's say even more laboured). This man would embark on his last Great North Run. A 22 year career in the Armed Forces and a Tyrannosaurus Rex running style do not bode well on the knees. A journey he hoped to share and create a lifelong memory. A journey he made solo.. Each step echoing & reverberating, constantly chipping away like a chisel in his mind... like the sound of clinking bottles of beer his son undoubtedly would be chugging at the 21st Birthday Mexican Themed Fraternity-style Party he had opted to go to. An opportunity for an unforgettable run but instead a night of Sombreros and Beer Pong, which truth be told, I cannot remember all that much of. That boy was me. And this Yomp will be a Yomp of Redemption. A Yomp for two men to share stories, build memories and break our bodies. A Yomp to Remember (well, remember up until the whiskey by the camp fire after we finish!) So in what will be the 10th Anniversary of The Cateran Yomp and 100th anniversary of the Royal Signals Corps being active, the corps in which my Dad served 22 years. We will embark upon this magnificently organised event together amongst our many friends we made in the Army where I spent my entire childhood growing up in both Germany and Northern Ireland, alongside and along with new friends we will undoubtedly make whilst we hopefully complete this epic challenge. Please donate what you can and help a great charity which has a truly positive impact. Thank you
I'm fundraising for ABF The Soldiers' Charity
On the 6th-7th June 2020, I am taking part in The Cateran Yomp. A 54-mile hike in 24 hours across rural Perthshire.
It’s going to be tough but it will raise vital funds for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, the Army's National Charity, providing a lifetime of support to soldiers, veterans and their immediate families.
Please give generously, and thank you for your support!
