The Frontline Walk 2023: The Normandy Beaches

Gillian's Normandy Beaches Challenge

This October I will be taking part in the Frontline Walk: The Normandy Beaches. Over 3 days I'll be trekking 100km of the coastline stormed as part of Operation Overlord during the D-Day landings of the Second World War.

I'll be doing this to commemorate the sacrifices made by those who fought in WWII whilst helping to support the soldiers and veterans of today.

I am very proud to come from a military family and to support this wonderful charity.

ABF The Soldiers' Charity, the National Charity of the British Army support soldiers, veterans and their families when they need it most.

This challenge means alot to me as I have just come out the other side of an achilles tendon rupture.  It was the worst injury I have ever had, taking 12 months to recover.  I was on crutches for 3 months and had to relearn how to walk again.  This was very tough on me mentally and I lost all my confidence with exercise.

I am starting to find my way back to myself now and find my limits again.  I am excited to take on this challenge.  100K will be so tough but I know I can do it, with the help of the positive mindset learned from my military family

Please cheer me on by making a donation towards my target, no matter how small.  It all helps and will be very gratefully received.  And leave a message of encouragement.  £700 of the target is cost of the trip which I will pay myself so I am aiming to raise £550.

With much thanks and love, Gillian x

Bosnia

Headed to Bosnia for the weekend end of June with an adventure company.

The plan was to climb Mount Maglic (2386M) but thunder and lightening put a stop to that.  Part of the route was steel cable so just not safe.

We managed a couple of hours walking the pouring rain.

Such a beautiful country.

Seven Sisters Cliff Walk

13 Mile Walk from Seaford to Eastbourne over the cliffs.

It was a super hot day, ended up getting quite sunburnt.  That sea breeze fooled me!

Found a little shop en route so a cold can of coke was very welcome at this point

Kiltwalk - Glasgow - April 2023

Walked 22.7 Miles in the Glasgow Kitlwalk to raise money for CHAS, a children's hospice.

Here I am having a well earned pit stop at the half way point.

Had horrendous blisters at the end :-(

Jurassic Coast April 2023

Some pretty challenging terrain - all good practice. A slight grimace behind the smile!

The stunning Jurassic Coast in Dorset. Having a well earned rest and snack break.

April 2023

Training has started! - no strict schedule yet but been getting out and about around the UK.  No ankle problems so far.

Feeling alot more like my pre-injury self when it comes to exercise. :-)
