Cateran Yomp 2022

On the 4th-5th June 2022, I am taking part in The Cateran Yomp. A 54-mile hike in 24 hours across rural Perthshire.

It’s going to be tough but it will raise vital funds for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, the Army's National Charity, providing a lifetime of support to soldiers, veterans and their immediate families.

Please give generously, and thank you for your support!

My Updates

Training 4 weeks to go

Well it is getting close now and this update is for this weeks training. Been out walking  for 5 days this week and covered 131.24 kilometers, Monday was the longest day at 36.1k week average was 26.24. Off to Scotland next Saturday to stay with family to try to get some hill walking done. Learned form my walk to Scotland that you need to do some it was the steep downhill parts that hurt most.

Training 5 weeks to go

Had to catch up on some jobs around the house and garden this week going to Scotland on 20th to get some hill work in Peterborough is like a billiard table. Walked 4 days out of 7 but cut down on the distance and upped speed. 96.94 kilometers walked for an average of 24.23

Training 6 weeks to go

out 5 days this week although Friday was only a quick 10k. Overall distance for the week was 137.48 kilometers.

About me

I am an ex WO2 and served 25 years with 2nd Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment. (Poachers). I am in a team With another ex Poacher Michael Pollard who for some reason known only to him came up with a team name of Oxocubes. In 2020 I did a walk from Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough to a small town in Scotland called Stewarton which is east of Glasgow. My reasons for doing this was to raise funds for the hospice to thank them for the care they showed my late wife Emma who passed away in May 2019. Emma was from Stewarton so the walk was to go form where she passed away to the house she was born in. This was a distance of 360 miles which I completed in 11 days finishing on my 65th birthday.

Training 7 weeks to go

Knee finally improved enough for me to get out again but only managed 4 days walking. Still haven't got full movement back but walking on the flat is not to bad. 112.25 kilometers covered and best day was 42.87. Nice to be back out training.

Training 8 weeks to go

No walking this week I was walking home in the high winds when suddenly found myself flat on my face with my left knee smashing into the concrete. The wind had blown some branches across the road and got tangled in my legs managed to get home but knee was swollen to twice its normal size. Woke up the following day and couldn't bend it at all.

Training 9 weeks to go

Another great weeks training walking 6 days best day was Sunday covering 44.51 kilometers and 30 plus on 4 of the other days. Weeks total was 199.97 for a daily average of 33.3kilometers.

Training 10 weeks to go

Training this week has gone well walked 6 days out of seven and covered 171.1 kilometers averaging 28.5 a day. Best day was Monday walking 40.3 kilometers. This post and all subsequent posts I am sharing today are all belated. the details have been taken from my training log.
