Yomp plan B
We couldn't let the Yomp weekend (6/7 June 2020) pass without marking it in some way with you all. Over what would have been the Yomp weekend, we are challenging you to collectively walk 540,000 steps!
We want to bring the Yomp community together virtually whilst offering you a walking challenge that allows you to follow the latest Government guidelines. With nearly 800 of you carrying your 2020 place over to 2021, if just half of you take part in this challenge, that's only 1350 steps each. Obviously, we would like to smash the 540,000 target so the more that get involved, the better!
Medals and more
Anyone can take part, you don’t have to already be a Yomp participant, so please share the challenge with friends and family.
Of course, a Yomp weekend wouldn’t be the same without a shiny medal at the end so everyone that takes part and logs their steps will be the proud owner of a Yomp plan B medal!
There is no registration fee and no minimum sponsorship. However, if you want to fundraise or donate to the charity, a fundraising page will be set up automatically upon registration. There are many frontline and key workers in the UK right now battling the pandemic and our serving soldiers are just some of them. The veterans of tomorrow as well as the veterans of today need your help and support and we are so grateful for everything you have done for us in 2020.
We're even recreating part of the Friday night for you. We'll be sharing a few of our favourite pasta recipes on social media so you can create your own Friday night feast at home and we have our incredibly inspiring Yomp ambassador Andy Garthwaite joining us too. Andy will be giving a talk and sharing his personal story with you all on our social media channels.
How can I get involved?
It is very simple, Register for the challenge today and get walking from 7am on the 6th June (when the Yomp would have started!). You have until 2pm on the Sunday afternoon to complete your steps. This is the time the most inspiring participant, single leg amputee AFF team member finished the gold route in 2018. An incredible moment that has stuck with so many of us.
Head outside if you can or start walking round your house or garden. Keep track of your step count using a fitness app and then log into your Yomp account and record your number of steps. You can also link Strava or Fitbit to your Yomp account. Everyone's recorded steps will then add in to the Yomp overall total.
The step count on this page will show the collective total and this will be regularly updated on our Facebook group Yomp Soc. Only steps logged from 7am on Saturday morning will count towards the total. We will be changing the step count back to 0 first thing on Saturday morning!
What is it?
The Cateran Yomp (a military term for a long-distance march) is the biggest, toughest event of its kind. Taking place on the 6/7th June 2020 in the foothills of the Cairngorm Mountains in Scotland, teams of 3-6 people battle through 54 miles (gold) in 24 hours across the rugged terrain of the Scottish wilderness. You can also sign up for the silver or bronze distances (36 and 22 miles respectively).
Sign up with friends, family, and colleagues to experience an unforgettable weekend whilst raising money for soldiers, veterans, and their families. Whichever distance you choose, you will get to test both your physical and mental limits whilst trekking through some truly breathtaking scenery.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a team, any individuals or pairs will be grouped together with individuals of similar abilities. Check out our facebook page to meet and connect with our brilliant Yompers.
Your registration fee includes all your food and drinks over the weekend, access to the campsite, goody bag, technical t-shirt, well-deserved medal and much more! The fundraising target is £400pp and you will be amazed at peoples generosity. As you register, your very own Yomp fundraising page will be created which you can use and share.
We also have a self funding option. For £450pp you can register without any fundraising obligation. A page will still be created for you – any money you raise will be gratefully received and enable us to continue to be there for soldiers, veterans and their families.

Located just an hour and half north of Edinburgh and Glasgow, the route takes you through some of the most remote and hidden areas of Scotland. With 7 waterstops and 3 main checkpoints littered across the route, you are never further than a few miles from your next slice of chocolate cake.
The trail will be fully marked out and signposted along the way. We’ll also send you a map pack before the event which breaks the route down into sections, giving a description, key co-ordinates and also shows the route on an OS map.
The Yomp takes place right in the heart of the Perthshire hills. This is only around a 90 minute drive from Edinburgh or Glasgow, but given the beautiful, unspoilt and peaceful setting, you will feel that you have travelled much further!
The Yomp route stretches from the high mountains of the Cairngorms National Park to the rolling farmland and berry fields of historic Strathmore, and from the salmon rich waters of the River Tay to the footpaths and riding tracks of the Angus Glens.
We’re close to the main North-South artery road routes of the A9 to Inverness and the A90 to Aberdeen, and the spectacular A93, Deeside National Tourist Route, runs through our area to the dramatic mountain scenery of Glenshee and onto Royal Deeside.
There are busy mainline stations at nearby Perth, Pitlochry and Dundee and fast, regular bus services throughout the area radiate out of Perth and Dundee.
You’re within easy reach of just about anything you’d want to do in Scotland after your challenge. For more details of what’s on offer in the local area, VisitEastPerthshire.co.uk
Places to stay
As part of your registration fee you are able to camp at the Event Hub on the Friday night, at which we provide hot showers and plenty of toilet facilities. The camping area is less than 100 metres from the start / finish line and so is perfectly placed for a little lie down after you complete the challenge.
The Yomp exists to raise money to support our soldiers, veterans, and their families, as such we would ask you to commit to raising £400 in sponsorship. In nine years the Yomp has raised an incredible £3,800,000 for our incredible beneficiaries
