The Cateran Yomp 2024

Some Peoples Wars continue, long after their service ends.

On the 8 - 9 June 2024, I am taking on the Cateran Yomp. A 54-mile hike in 24 hours across rural Perthshire.

It’s going to be tough but it will raise vital funds for the Army Benevolent Fund, providing a lifetime of support to soldiers, veterans and their immediate families.

As a SCOTS veteran.  I have personally  benefited from the ABF Scotland team fundraising.  As well as directly supporting Veterans and their families they provide financial support to other charities.  During my transition to civilian street, I was given fantastic support from one of those charities called Veterans First Point.  I am also very proud to say, I am an advocate working in support of the ABF Scotland team here in Scotland.

Please give what you can, and thank you for all your support.   I managed to sponsor myself while registering, never a dull moment with this Call Sign!

Thank you to everyone who has kindly donated.

Blown away by peoples generosity, thank you all. Woody

The folk you meet when Training

Met this fella and his mates above the Ski Slope on Sunday morning.

Another 20 miler in the Pentlands done!

This had a lot of climbing in it.

The training route had 1500m of elevation!

My hydration and nutrition seemed to work much better. I consumed 1.5ltr of fluid.

20 Miles in the Pentland Hills

After a week of torrential rain, why was I surprised at the slop fest 🤣 most trails were small streams.

A muddy run in Glentress

I completed a 16 miles trail run in Glentress Forest, an area where I normally mountain bike. Forest machinery had made some of the trails a real challenge.

Same Monday morning 10 miler with picture🐝

I took a bus to Leith and then ran home along the water of Leith. 😊

Monday Morning 10 miler

Took a bus to Leith and ran a long the water of Leith all the way back to Colinton village and home. Managed to stay ahead of the now heavy rain. 🐝😊

TESTING BEFORE LAUNCH

Having commited to my participation in this years Cateran Yomp, I thought I should test myself in my preperation phase.

The grimace was at the top of a small undulation as I approached the 26 miles point on the recent John Muir Way Ultra.  I completed the 50Km, 31 Miles route, and have no shame in admitting there were far more psychological low points than highs!  A constant 23mph headwind saw to that.

Thank you to my Sponsors
