The Medicine Ball Challenge

One in four adults experience mental illness, and many more of us know and care for people who do. Talking openly about we feel can help.

The challenge involves cuffing a 3kg Medicine Ball to my wrist for 7 days. It may not sound that heavy but being tied to the medicine ball continuously for 7 days is a significant burden. The ball becomes a physical, visual and tangible representation of the invisible burden of mental health so many of us can experience.

The challenge raises money for the following charities. Any support you can offer will be gratefully received and split evenly between the causes.

Day 7 / Final Day

You don’t have to be positive all the time. It’s perfectly okay to feel sad, angry, annoyed, frustrated, scared and anxious. Having feelings doesn’t make you a negative person. It makes you human. This has been a journey that I will remember for a long time. Not only was it a physical burden but a mental burden just like the pain and suffering some face daily, this is somthing that myself and others are trying to help concour for all that are suffering (Mental Health). But the support and kind messages I have received have been amazing and truly inspirational. So I just want to say thank you to all that have helped me on my journey and supported me in making a difference. REMEMBER YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

Day 6

I found that with depression, one of the most important things you can realize is that you’re not alone. You’re not the first to go through it, you’re not gonna be the last to go through it.

Day 5

The advice I’d give to somebody that’s silently struggling is, you don’t have to live that way. You don’t have to struggle in silence. You can be un-silent. You can live well with a mental health condition, as long as you open up to somebody about it, because it’s really important you share your experience with people so that you can get the help that you need.

Day 4

Mental health problems don’t define who you are. They are something you experience. You walk in the rain and you feel the rain, but you are not the rain.

Day 3

Just remember, you are not alone, in fact, you are in a very commonplace with millions of others. We need to help each other and keep striving to reach our goals.

Day 2

Mental health…is not a destination, but a process. It’s about how you drive, not where you’re going.

Day 1

Today is the start of my Medicine Ball challenge. Wish me luck. 7 days to showcase how important Mental Health is to us all.

The Journey Begins

As of next week 30 Oct 23, I will be handed the Medicine Ball, the challenge is for a great cause and I'm looking forward to taking part and to hopefully make a change and difference to all those who suffer or know anybody that suffers with Mental Health.
